Registration exemptions for golf carts and similar vehicles. (1) Golf carts operated in accordance with an ordinance adopted under ORS 810.070 are exempt from registration requirements under the vehicle code. (2) Golf carts or substantially similar vehicles that are operated by persons with disabilities at not more than 15 miles an hour are exempt from registration requirements under the vehicle code. (3) Notwithstanding any provision of the vehicle code relating to vehicle equipment and condition, upon designation of a portion of a highway becoming effective under an ordinance adopted under ORS 810.070, it shall be lawful to drive golf carts on highways or portions thereof so designated in accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by the local authority.
