Statute Text
Port
may engage in certain water commerce-related activities.
A port may, for hire:
(1) Acquire,
charter, own, lease, rent, dispose of, maintain and operate towboats, barges
and other watercraft for the transportation of all kinds of merchandise,
freight and commercial or recreational passengers, and engage generally in
maritime trade and commerce, within or without the boundaries of this state.
(2) Own, acquire,
construct, operate and maintain railroad terminal grounds and yards; and
construct, operate and maintain such line or lines of railroad, with necessary
sidetrack, turnouts, switches and connection and arrangements with other common
carriers, as may facilitate water commerce between common carriers and points
within the port; and carry and transport freight and passengers and move
passenger trains over the lines.
(3) Acquire, own,
lease, rent, operate, maintain and dispose of unit trains and related
facilities for the transportation of bulk commodities to facilities within the
port from locations within or without the port. [1971 c.728 §22 (enacted in
