Statute Text
Scope
of practice of hemodialysis technician; rules.
(1) A person certified as a
hemodialysis technician may, under the direct supervision of a physician
licensed under ORS chapter 677 or a registered nurse licensed under ORS 678.010
to 678.415, perform functions as determined by rules adopted by the Oregon
Health Authority, in consultation with the Oregon Medical Board and the Oregon
State Board of Nursing.
(2) A
hemodialysis technician shall not:
(a) Administer
medications by oral, intramuscular, intravenous or subcutaneous means except as
specified under rules adopted by the authority pursuant to subsection (1) of
this section.
(b) Determine the
frequency, duration or nature of dialysis treatments or alter any treatment
prescribed by a licensed health professional.
(c) Engage in any
health care activity requiring a license except as authorized under rules
adopted by the authority pursuant to subsection (1) of this section. [1997
