Liability of petitioners for obligations of district. Except as provided in ORS 545.075, the board of directors to whom the petition is presented may require as a condition precedent to the granting of the petition that the petitioners severally pay, contract to pay or become liable to the district for assessments for the payment of their pro rata share of all bonds and the interest thereon previously issued by the district. The amount of the assessments required under this section, as nearly as the amount can be estimated by the board, shall be the amount that the petitioners or their grantors would have been required to pay to the district had such lands been included in the district at the time it was originally formed or when the bonds were issued.
