Oregon Code § 433.507·Enacted ·Last updated March 01, 2026
Statute Text
Legislative findings.
The Legislative Assembly finds and declares:
(1) Scientific
studies reveal that indoor concentrations of some pollutants are frequently
higher than outdoor concentrations of those pollutants and that indoor
pollutant concentrations can exceed health-based standards.
(2) On the
average, people spend at least 90 percent of their time indoors, and, as a
result, the population has a significant potential for exposure to indoor air
pollutants.
(3) Indoor air
pollution poses one of the most serious environmental threats to public health,
including cancer, respiratory illness, multiple chemical sensitivities, skin
and eye irritation and related effects, and is estimated to cause significant
increases in medical costs and claims, and declines in work productivity.
Indoor air pollution also has been linked significantly to improperly
maintained ventilation systems that increase consumption of energy.
(4) Existing
state environmental and occupational health programs do not adequately protect
the public from exposure to indoor air pollution that may occur in public areas
or office workplaces.
(5) It is in the
public interest to reduce exposure to indoor air pollution by developing a
comprehensive program to investigate and remedy indoor air pollution and to
educate the public. [1989 c.1070 §2]
