Section Overview

General Consideration Purpose of statute was to relieve father of common-law liability to support minor children, and substitute therefor a liability by virtue of a court decree. Thomas v. Holt, 209 Ga. 133 , 70 S.E.2d 595 (1952); Booker v. Booker, 219 Ga. 358 , 133 S.E.2d 353 (1963). Purpose of statute was to substitute for a father's common-law liability to support his children a liability by virtue of a court decree, whereby he is required to contribute a specified amount at fixed intervals. Clark v. Clark, 228 Ga. 838 , 188 S.E.2d 487 (1972); Newsome v. Newsome, 237 Ga. 221 , 227 S.E.2d 347 (1976).
