Attempts will be made to achieve control through advice, warnings and persuasion. However, in situations where resistance to an arrest, or non-compliance to a lawful order, or a threat to life is encountered and reasonable alternatives have been exhausted or would clearly be ineffective, physical force may be used. 51.3 DEFINITIONS: Chemical Force (G.O. 55) - use of OC Spray to compel compliance.
