1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to advise agency employees about FS 775.21, the “Florida
Sexual Predators’ Act,” and agency procedures to comply with procedures for registering
sexual predators and community notification.
2. Policy
It shall be the policy of the agency to comply with all applicable state and federal laws
pertaining to sexual predators and offenders , as well as community notification.
3. Procedures
A. Sexual predators and/or offenders must register as sexual predators /sexual
offenders in accordance with Florida Statute and are subject to community and
public notification.
B. The Windermere Police Department does not register sexual predators or sexual
offenders. Sexual predators or sexual offenders presenting themselves at the
police st ation to comply with Florida Statutes shall be referred to the Orange
County Sheriff’s Office .
C. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement ( FDLE ) is responsible for informing
the Chief of Police via FCIC and fax of a person registering as a sexual predator
who provides their address as being within the Town of Windermere. FDLE also
follows up with a letter to the Chief of Police. A copy of any teletype messages Effective Date: October 18, 2022 Rescinds

received about sexual predator notification from FDLE will be forwarded to the
Chief of Police a nd the agency investigator.
D. The agency will display, in the police department lobby area, names and
photographs of registered sexual offenders/predators living within the Town of
Windermere.
E. Upon notification of the presence of a sexual predator, the Chief of Police shall
notify or cause to be informed members of the community and the public of the
presence of the sexual predator in a manner deemed appropriate by the Chief of
Police.
F. The agen cy investigator or his designee shall be responsible for the following :
1. Notifying the community of all sexual predators as provided in Florida
Statute 775.21(7) and as directed by the Chief of Police. Patrol officers
may be utilized to assist in the notification process.
2. Maintaining information on all sexual predators and offenders residing in
the Town of Windermere. The notification shall include photographs,
probation/parole information, convict ion information , and the offender’s
current address .
3. Providing information on sexual predators and offenders with Patrol to
ensure effective information sharing
4. Displaying and updating information on sexual offenders and predators on
the inform ation board provided in the lobby of the police station.
5. Ensuring that personal contact is made with each predator/offender every
quarter . This contact shall be accomplished by assigning a list of
predators/offenders to patrol supervisors . The patrol sergeants shall
ensure officers contact the predators/offenders at the
predators/ offenders’ residence. Officers shall document contacts by
completing a Field Interview Report . If the officer cannot make contact ,
the officer shall document the attempted con tact on the Field Interview
Form.
G. Criminal history checks will indicate if a person is a registered sexual predator or
offender.
H. If an officer contacts a registered sexual predator or offender under suspicious
circumstances and no arrest is made, the officer shall document the contact on an

Incident Report as “Information” and make a note to alert the agency investigator
or his designee to follow up .
I. The agency shall ensure mandatory community notification is made of all
registered sexual predators.
