1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish patrol techniques and pro cedures that will ensure
quality of police services to the citizens of the Town of Windermere.
2. Policy
It is the policy of the Windermere Police Department to engage in patrol activities designed
to protect and serve the citizens of the Town of Windermere. The Windermere Police
Department will provide continuous response to emergencies within the agency’s
jurisdiction. [14.01M]

A. Daily Patrol Responsibilities

3. Midnight Shift Patrol Objectives
Concentrat ion should be placed on the securi ty of business areas as well as
residential sections of the communi ty. Patrol should vary so as to be
unpredictable to those engaged in criminal activity. A good working
knowledge of t he area is essential to pro per and effective routine patrol.
Primary patrol objectives include the following:

c. Traffic Control
d. House checks
B. Knowledge of Town and Use of GPS Map ping
1. It is requested that members utilize GPS Mapping whenever possible in lieu
of asking Comm unications for street locations .
2. With the obvious exception of emergency situations, members are
expected to utilize GPS Mapping when unfamiliar with street locations.
3. Each member has access via their Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) .
4. Proper routine patrol techniques should include primary and secondary
roads in order to increase geographical familiarity with the entire town.

C. Beginning of Shift Duties
There are several things a member must do at the beginning of each shift.
The following is a list of items the member must take care of before going on the
road .
1. Members shall show up to shift on time, in uniform, and prepared to begin
their shift.
2. Members shall log on for their shift by contacting WGPD dispatch via the
radio. If the radios are down, members will call the Communications
Supervisor at (407) 905 -6333.
3. Members shall check their agency mailbox .
4. Members shall check the briefing board for updates.
5. Members shall check their agency email throughout their shift .
6. Members will conduct pre -shift vehicle inspections. When driving an
agency vehicle other than one that is assigned, members shall inspect the
vehicle for any noticeable damage and report this to their immediate
supervisor.
7. If radar certified, conduct radar tests and document in the radar log. This
test will also be conducted at end of shift.
D. Out of Jurisdiction Response
The Windermere Police Department has a mutual aid a greement with the Oran ge
County Sheriff’s Office and the municipalities of Oran ge Count y. These mutual aid
agreements allow member s to assist the Oran ge County Sheriff’s Office and other
municipalities when requested (GO 6.9 Mutual Aid ). The following procedures
apply to requests for mutual aid.
1. A member shall only respond to a call when requested by an Oran ge County
Watch Commander or at the request of another municipalit y. This request
shall be broadcast on the primary radio channel. The only exception to this
would be when a life is endan gered or when the lack of response will place
other lives in dan ger such as a vehicle crash. In the event of a vehicle crash,
the member shall notify Communications of the agency ’s response , and
request the respective law enforcement agency and fire department
agency be notified, if appropriate. The member shall render first aid if

necessary and stand by as needed. A Mutual Aid form will be completed
and submitted via chain of command.
2. Any time a member responds out of the limits of the Town of Windermere,
he/she shall return as soo n as possible.
E. Foot Patrol
Foot patrol is an essential part of community policin g. A member on foot patrol
can go places a vehicle or bic ycle cannot go. Members are encouraged to conduct
foot patrol on every shift.
F. Citizen Assists
In order to promote good community relations, members shall endeavor to assist
the public regardless of the nature of the call. A member should use the following
