POLICY 171.0ROBBERY - HOME INVASION REVISED: 11 /2011 REVISED: 4/2019RELATED POLICIES: Reviewed and Revised by Chief David Magnusson 4/2019 A.Incidents of Home Invasion Robbery will be headed on the police report as Robbery- Armed, or Robbery – Strong-arm. However, be sure to designate this residence type in the event data section of the police report. B.The Communications Center will make all due effort to ascertain if the home invasion robbery is in progress or delayed. C.For the purposes of this policy, incidents of robbery that occur inside private residences will be considered Home Invasion Robberies, if the totality of evidence indicates that the intent of the suspect was to confront owners or occupants inside or outside the residence for the purpose of facilitating a theft inside the residence, and in the course of the taking, there is the use of force, violence, assault, or putting in fear. D.In determining if the offense report should be handled as a Robbery or Burglary, the investigating officer should attempt to weigh the entire criminal episode and consider those factors which usually indicate the primary intent of the suspect. E.The Chief of Police or his/her designee will be notified of this type of incident. F.All procedures pertaining to suspect, victim, and witness statements and information, as well as, crime scene preservation will be in effect as outlined in Policy 216.2, “Robbery – Armed (delayed).
