POLICY 170.0ROBBERY - STRONGARM REVISED: 11 /2011 REVISED: 4/2019RELATED POLICIES: Reviewed and Revised by Chief David Magnusson 4/2019 A.Whenever a purse or jewelry, or other property of value, is taken from the actual physical control of an individual by criminal suspect, the police report should be headed as Robbery - Strong-arm, regardless of the level of force, violence, assault or putting in fear. B.If an arrest is made in the above offense, § 812.131, Fla. Stat., titled “robbery by sudden snatching,” will be considered to determine the appropriate charge(s). Note that additional penalties will apply in the event that the suspect was armed. C.If victim property is recovered, it can immediately be returned to its rightful owner after being photographed and after all pertinent information about the item(s) is recorded. Said photographs will be placed into evidence under the appropriate offense report number. D.Procedures pertaining to suspect, victim, and witness statements and information, as well as crime scene preservation, as outlined in Police 216.2 “Robbery – Armed (delayed)” will be applicable.
