POLICY 164.0THEFT (Less than $300.00) and LOST PROPERTY REVISED: 11/2011 RELATED POLICIES: Reviewed by Chief David Magnusson 4/2019 A.POLICY It is the policy of the El Portal Police Department to handle all reports of larceny and lost property. B.PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to increase the availability of our police officers and to be more effective and responsive to our community. This will reduce the amount of time officers spend on larceny and lost property calls that do not require their presence. C.PROCEDURE 1.The Officer will determine: a.If culprit is on the scene (theft cases); b.If any culprit is known; c.Any unusual or extenuating circumstances that require a police response (e.g. the theft of credit cards, theft of license tags, hazardous or dangerous items taken (i.e. drugs, flammables) or any other information requiring immediate follow-up); and d.If there is a suspect license plate number. e.Value of item(s) missing-under $300.00.
