POLICY 158.0FIRES - ARSON REVISED: 11/2011 RELATED POLICIES: Reviewed by Chief David Magnusson 4/2019 A.ARSON 1.The officer handling the call will make every effort to secure the crime scene after the fire is put out. The officer's duties are to: a.Protect evidence b.Remain on scene until the arrival of the arson investigator c.Interview witnesses d.Arrest perpetrators 2.The Miami Dade Fire Department will determine if a detective will be called out in all cases of serious injury or death as a result of a suspicious fire or arson and in all cases where a suspect has been developed, a culprit identified or an arrest made. 3.Absent the above circumstances, the Chief of Police or his/her designee will determine the need to call out an arson investigator. 4.Whether an arson investigator is called or not, the fire scene must be protected until all evidence is gathered. 5.Supervisors are to be notified of all suspicious fires and arsons.
