A. The following procedures will be adhered to in the handling cases of unattended deaths
(deaths where no physician will sign a Death Certificate):
1. Patrol will immediately advise the Chief of Police or his/her designee of the
incident. During normal working hours Miami Dade Police Homicide may be
called.
2. In all cases where a physician will not sign a Death Certificate, Miami Dade
Police Department will be notified (refer to Policy 207.1).
3. Patrol Officers shall protect the scene according to established procedures until
the scene is turned over to Miami Dade Police Detectives.
