A. In cases where an officer arrests the owner of a pet, the following procedures may be taken. 1. The pet may be turned over to a caretaker designated by the arrested person. 2. If the owner fails to designate a caretaker for whatever reason (one cannot be found, owner refusal, owner incapacitation), Animal Control will be contacted to respond. If unable to respond in a reasonable time, the officer will impound the pet. B. Whenever a pet is taken into custody, the following procedures shall apply. 1. The pet will be sheltered in a temporary holding pen at the station. 2. The pet will be provided with fresh water by the officer. 3. A tag listing the O.R., officer's name, owner's name, and reason for detention shall be filled out by the arresting officer and attached to the pet or holding pen. 4. The officer will notify Animal Control to pick up the pet.
