POLICY 140.0ANIMALS (BITES) REVISED: 11 /2011 Reviewed and Revised by Chief David Magnusson 4/2019RELATED POLICIES: A.When this Department is notified of an animal bite, the victim shall be advised to contact the Miami- Dade County Health Department. All reporting and investigating of animal bites are the responsibility of the Health Department and Animal Control shall be contacted to respond to conduct an investigation and cited the violator. A CCIN will be issued if it is determined there is a violation of Sec 4.1-4.9 of the El Portal Ordenances. Ordinances. B.Police units will be dispatched to animal bites only when the animal is still present at the scene and presents an immediate danger to persons. If the police are dispatched, Communications will contact Rabies Control and request their presence. C.During hours when the Health Department is closed, Communications personnel will attempt to ascertain a description of the animal, and the name, address and telephone number of the animal's owner. This information will be recorded and passed on to the Health Department. Page 1 of 1
