G.FIELD TRAINING OFFICER (FTO) PROGRAM
1.The El Portal Police Department has established a Field Training Officer (FTO)
Program. The primary objective of the FTO Program is to produce an employee

complete a certified 40-hour Field Training Officer course. The course must be

inaction which is in violation of Police Department rules, regulations, Florida
State Statutes, or the failure to maintain minimum standards as prescribed by
Department policy, Florida State Statutes, or the FDLE Standards and Training
Commission. The need for remedial training may also be determined by an
employee’s substandard or unsatisfactory performance.

in writing to the Office of the Chief of Police. The request will clearly state the
circumstances, the reason for the training and what type of remedial training is

performance can request remedial training through their appropriate chain of

7.If an employee’s actions or inaction may cause a potential risk of personal harm
to the employee or other person or persons because of substandard or inadequate
performance, the employee shall be reassigned to administrative duties until
remedial training is available.
