University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 1 9.5 Property Management: Acquired and In -custody Property 9.5.3 Evidence and Records Technician (Revised: 5/10/23 ) Under direct supervision, the Evidence and Records Technicians are responsible for providing support to the Field Services Division, including Patrol, the ECC and the Records Unit. This is a non -sworn classification, providing support in the day -to-day operation of the Police Department. The position is one of high cus tomer service and public contact. The property and evidence component of the job involves the management and maintenance of inventory, including the receipt, recording, custody, security and disposition of items of evidence, lost and found property, video recordings and contraband received by the Police Department. The Evidence and Records Technicians fulfill Public Records Act requests in compliance with state laws. They track, audit and purge Records Unit documents in compliance with state law s and University guidelines and compile information and records in support of Clery Act compliance. The Evidence and Records Technicians collect evidence at crime scenes or related areas and store catalog and transport the evidence. They process classify and safeguard evidence using laboratory or other physical processes to determine characteristics or other information concerning evidence. They prepare evidence information for use present to others and testify about evidence in court.
