9.5 Property Management: Acquired and In -custody Property
9.5.2 Evidence Management Responsibility (Revised: 6/4/24 )
The UCSF Police Department’s Evidence Control function is managed by the TSD Director.
A. The TSD Director is responsible for the overall management of evidence control ,
supervises the Property and Evidence Technicians , recommends policy changes to the
Chief of Police, and assists with evidence control and management in absence of a
Property and Evidence Technician .
B. The TSD Director is responsible for the direct supervision of the Property and Evidence
Technicians , ensures that the written directives for the property management system are
followed by the Property and Evidence Technicians and assists with evidence control and
management in the absence of a Property and Evidence Technician .
C Property and Evidence Technicians are responsible for the control and management of all
evidence submitted to the Evidence Room, Property I ntake Room and Lost and Found
Property Room. This includes proper storage of property, responsibility for carrying out
the final disposition of evidence a s directed by the investigating officer or the courts and
maintaining accurate records with bar coding and entry into the RMS Property Module,
in addition to prompt the disposition of evidence within one year after all legal
requirements have been met.
D. The property management f acilities include the Evidence Room, Lost and Found Room
and Property Intake Room.
1. The Evidence Room is located in the Mission Center Building in an area
designated by the Chief of Police as the evidence storage area.
2. Firearms, narcotics, money and jewelry are kept in the weapons locker .
