University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 5.1 Criminal Investigations: Organization and Administration 5.1.2 Criminal Investigations Component (Revised: 8/1/14) The Investigations Unit operates within the Field Services Division (FSD) under the command of a lieutenant who directly reports to the FSD Captain . Detectives are sworn police officers assigned to the FSD Investigations Unit, usually for a three -year rotational term, which can be extended at the discretion of the Chief of Poli ce. The Detective assignment is not a promoted rank. Detectives will have an annual performance evaluation to ensure performance levels are maintained and to establish career goals and development. Officers assigned as detectives are eligible for specialty pay, as described in the Federated University Police Officers Association (FUPOA) Agreement. Other Department officers may be assigned to the Investigation Unit at the discretion of the Chief of Police depending on staffing levels and needed resources.
