University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 4.21 Prisoner Transportation: Transport Equipment 4.21.1 Safety Barriers (Issued: 6/25/07) Patrol vehicles that are used for prisoner transports shall be equipped with safety barriers. Barriers shall be constructed so as to prevent the prisoner from having access to the driver’s compartment. The barrier should reduce the opportunity for foreign objects to be introduced into the driver’s compartment from the transport compartment. At leas t the upper portion of the barrier shall be constructed of a transparent material that will provide adequate protection while still allowing the driver to observe the activities of prisoners. A portion of the barrier shall allow conversation between the dr iver compartment and prisoner compartment if desired.
