University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 4.17 Traffic Direction and Control 4.17.9 Roadblocks (Revised: 6/04/08) A. Assisting with Traffic Control An officer is authorized to temporarily close or block a road when assisting with an emergency situation or for previously arranged special events. During emergency situations, roadblocks or street closures may be used to facilitate safe efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians around hazards, while maintaining security of the scene. Roadblocks or closures may be accompl ished utilizing temporary traffic control devices or a marked police vehicle with its emergency lights on. B. Roadblocks to Apprehend The use of roadblocks to apprehend a suspect is prohibited.
