University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 4.15 Traffic Law Enforcement 4.15.8 Accountability for Traffic Citations (Revised: 8/5/23 ) A. Traffic/criminal citation books shall be maintained and stored in a locked cabinet by the Evidence and Records Technicians . Issuance of citation books is restricted to the Evidence and Records Technicians and will be documented. 1. To obtain a citation book , officer s will contact the Evidence and Records Technicians and request issuance . 2. The Evidence and Records Technicians shall issue the citation book(s) to the officer and have the officer to complete an issuance form. 3. Information on th e log sheet will include the following : a. Officer’s badge number b. Date issue d c. Officer’s shift d. Numbers of first and last citation in the book (s) issued. B. At the end of their shift, officers shall turn in their issued citations to be checked and forwarded to the Records Unit for processing, as outlined in General Order 8.5.11, “Recording Arrest Information.” From there, citations will be forwarded to the appropriate court. C. Cancellation of citation(s) shall be handled as follows: 1. If an officer makes an error is made in writing a citation or if citations have become damaged due to accidental exposure to rain, moisture, etc., they may be administratively voided by the officer 2. A supervisor may direct an officer to dismiss or void a citation if , upon investigation , it appears the citation was improperly or inappropriately issued. This type of dismissal require s a written explanation to the appropriate court for approval.
