4.8 Police Office Custody of Mentally Ill Persons
4.8.8 Community Resources (Revised: 2/16/17)
A. The City and County of San Francisco and the UCSF community have many resources
for the mentally ill. Agencies such as the San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team
(SFHOT 415 -355-7445), SFGH Psychiatric Emergency Service (415 -206-8125) and
UCSF Emergency Depar tment (415 -353-1238) are resources available for referral.
B. Officers coming in contact with citizens in need of such referrals are encouraged to
facilitate the connections with these agencies when probable cause does not exist for
peace officer custody .
