4.7 Patrol Operations: Vehicle Equipment and Uniform
4.7.6 General Appearance (Revised: 8/1/14)
In any organization, the entire organization will many times be judged on the actions and
appearances of just one of its members. For this reason, it is important each and every member of
the Police Department present a professional, businesslike appearance when representing the
UCSF and Police Department.
A. It is the responsibility of all supervisors to see to it that officers of the Polic e Department
maintain a neat, clean and businesslike appearance.
B. Uniformed officers are readily recognizable as members of the Police Department and
have an added responsibility to look and dress professionally. All uniformed officers are
required to wear approved garments and equipment. Shoes, leather gear and badges
should be polished and uniforms clean and pressed and fitted.
C. Uniformed officers of the Police Department will not be permitted to wear decorative
jewelry while on duty an d in uniform, except wrist watches, plain post type earrings
(simple, non -dangling or without extremely decorative parts) and wedding rings or other
rings regularly worn by the member.
D. The use of tobacco in any form is not permitted by the University o f California.
