University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders Page 1 4.3 Use of Force 4.3.18 Firearms Range (Revised: 8/25/20 ) A. The UCSF Pol ice Department utilizes private range facilities and facilities operated by other agencies for semi -annual and remedial firearms qualification sessions. B. Prior to the start of each scheduled session, the range rules and safety procedures of the facility should be reviewed with participants and conspicuo usly posted at the venue. C. Only weapons, ammunition and accessories authorized for use in General Orders 4.3.7, “Authorized Firearms” and 4.3.8, “Personally -owned Firearms” may be used at the range. D. Personal, protective safety equipment, including hearing protection and protective eyewear, must be worn at all times wh ile the range is active. E. A Range Supervisor, identified in advance by the event organizer, shall be present at all times while the range is in use. He/she shall be responsible for monitoring range activity and ensuring operational safety. F. Weapons and ammunition shall be removed at the end of each session. No storage of weapons or ammunition at the range facilty is allowed. G. Firearms instructors will receive biennial training in emergency medical res ponse for trauma injuries .
