University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 3.37 Promotion: Professional and Legal Requirements 3.37.1 Department Role in Promotion Process (Issued: 6/25/07) A. Promotion denotes vertical movement in the organization hierarchy from one rank to another, usually accompanied by increases in salary. It is the policy of the Police Department to select and promote the best possible candidates available for all advancement opportunities within the Police Department. B. The Chief of Police or his/her designee is responsible for coordinating and administering the testing of candidates in the promotion process. The Chief of Police will provide input on the various stages of the promotional process.
