University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 3.28 Selection: Occupational Qualifications 3.28.1 Sworn Personnel Qualifications (Revised: 3/17/20 ) A. The Police Department will, at a minimum, require the sworn personnel qu alifications as set forth in the POST training guidelines , including all of the following : 1. U.S. citizenship 2. Minimum age of 21 years at the time of hire 3. California Criminal Identification Index (CII) , FBI and National Crime Information Cent er (NCIC) fingerprint clearance 4. No felony, domestic violence or dr ug-related criminal convictions 5. Successful completion of a th orough background investigation 6. High school graduation or equivalent 7. Medical and physical fitness standards as required by POST and the University of California. B. In addition, the Police Department requires that sworn personnel have: 1. Basic computer literacy and keyboard skills to perform essential j ob functions in a timely manner 2. Basic grammar, s pelling and punctuation skills 3. Analytical and decision making ski lls to iden tify problems, weigh solutions and recognize alternatives and their implica tions independently and quickly 3. Valid California driver’s license by date of appointment and a driving re cord that meets University standards. C. Sworn personnel of the rank of Captain or Chief of Police are required to have earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
