3.14 Sexual and Workplace Harssment (Revised: 6/4/24)
All members of the UCSF Police Department shall abide by the UC Sexual Violence and Sexual
Harassment Policy and the UC Anti -Discrimination Policy. Sexual violence and h arassment
complaints may be filed through this Department , the Title IX office and/ or in accordance with the
relevant collective barga ining agreement or PPSM.
A. Sexual Harassment Training
1. Police Department managers and supervisors are required to complete two hours of
sexual harassment prevention training within 90 days of hire and every two years
there after. Training is provided through through the UC systemwide staff training
and education program .
2. Managers and supervisors will also receive biennial training on:
a. Their legal obligation s to report sexual violence
b. Their obligation to report sexual v iolence to the Title IX office and the
process for notif ication.
c. Sexual v iolence prevention techniques .
3. Non-supervisory Department personnel are required to complete sexual violence
and sexual harassment prevention training within six weeks of hire and every two
years thereafter . Training is provided through the UC systemwide staff training and
education program and include s information o n:
a. How to identify sexual harassment/violence
b. The employee's responsibility to re port sexual violence and sexual
harassment to the Title IX office
c. The University’s Title IX reporting and grievance procedures
d. Any other procedures that may be used by the University to investigate
reports of sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, sexual battery,
sexual coercion, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking .
4. Sexual assault investigators are required to successfully complete POST and UCOP -
mandated sexual assault investigation courses.
a. Investigator t raining shall include the topics of civil rights investigation of
sexual violence complaints, applicable confidentiality requirements, non -
stranger sexual assault and use of the preponderance of evidence standard.
B. Sexual Harassment Investigations
1. Title IX inve stigations are typically completed within 60 days , unless extended with
proper notification . Criminal investigations will often be conducted concurrently.
Collaboration with the institution’s Title IX coordinator is critical. The Title IX
investigation sha ll not be delayed pending the outcome of a criminal investigation,
except for the collection of evidence. The Title IX Coordinator is permitted access

to Department investigative notes and findings as necessary for the Title IX
investigation, as long as disclosure does not compromise the criminal investigation.
2. Discussions and the implementation of an MOU with local police and prosecutors
are recommended for the understanding of the implications of Title IX on the
agency’s investigative and disciplinary procedures.
