University of California, San Francisco Police Department General Orders 3.8 Compensation, Benefits and Conditions of Work: Benefits 3.8.5 Sick Leave (Revis ed: 7/18/22 ) A. Sick leave is accrued according to the provisions of applicable labor agreements and/or the PPSM policy , as applicable to the member . B. A member who is unable to report for duty because of illness or injury shall call his or her immediate supervisor or other person designated by the supervisor to report the absence prior to the start of his/her assigned shift. 1. Vacation time may not be used in lieu of sick time . C. A member who has been on sick leave for three consecutive days may be required to provide a doctor’s release for return to duty. D. Sick leave shall only be used for the following purposes: 1. Injury or illness rendering the member unfit for duty 2. Medical/dental examinations and treatment 3. Illness or death in the member’s immediate family , as defined in the relevant collective bargaining agreement or policy , which requires the member’s presence 4. Maternity leave , as described in the member’s respective labor agreement or U C personnel policy.
