SS444 - Call Taker response to Illegally Parked Vehicles 1 SS444 CALL TAKER RESPONSE TO ILLE GALLY PARKED
VEHICLES
SS444.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This procedure establishes guidelines for handling calls related to illegally parked vehicles.
SS444.1.1 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This Procedure pertains to the following CALEA Standards: N/A
This Procedure relates to the following General Orders: N/A
SS444.2 PROCEDURE
On private property we legally can only enforce properly marked handicapped and fire lane
violations. Typical violations are:
a) Parked in a posted “no parking” zone ;
b) Parked in a fire lane ;
c) Parked within 15 feet of a fire hydrant ;
d) Parked in a handicapped space with no placard ; and
e) Blocking a driveway or sidewalk .
SS.444.2.1 CALL TAKING
When taking a call related to illegally parked vehicles, the following information should be
obtained:
a) Where is the vehicle parked? Address or cross streets and the name of the business if
it’s parked in front of a business.
b) Obtain a description of the vehicle including a license plate number i f the reporting party
has one.
c) How is the ve hicle parked illegally? In a handicap spot with no placard? Facing the
wrong direction?
d) If the reporting party gives you a license plate, be sure to run a wanted check and
registration check.
e) Enter the call using the call type “ 586”.
SS444.2.2 DISPATCHING THE CALL
Send a Police Services Officer or Parking Control Officer if available. I f a PSO is not available
send an officer to check for the parking violation.
