SS424 - Call Taker Response to Disturbance Calls 1 SS424 CALL TAKER RESPONSE TO DISTURBANCE CALLS
SS424.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This pro cedure establishes guidelines for handling several different types of disturbance calls.
SS424.1.2 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This procedure pertains to the following CALEA Standards: 82.2.2
This p rocedure pertains to the following General Orders: N/A
SS424.2 CALL TAKING - DISTURBING SUBJECT
Obtain the following information:
a) Where is the subject that is causing the disturbance? Be specific when entering the
location, cross streets, inside, outside, back yard, front yard, the business name .
b) What is the subject doing?
c) Description of the subject. If the disturbing party is known to the CP, get the subject ’s
name and run them for wants and warrants.
d) Is the subject under the influence of alcohol or drugs?
e) Is the subject alone ?
f) Does the subject have a ny weapons?
g) If the disturbing party is an adult, enter the call for service using the call type “ 415S .”
h) If the disturbing party is a juvenile, enter the call using the call type “ 415J .”
i) If the call for service involves gang members, or what the caller believes to be gang
members, the call may be entered using the call type “ 415G .”
SS424.2.1 DISPATCHING THE CALL
a) Dispatch a minimum of two officers to the location of the disturbance ;
b) Update responding officers with additional information as it becomes available.
SS424.3 CALL TAKING - TRAFFIC DISPUTE
Obtain the following informati on:
a) What is the location of the disturbance?
b) Description of vehicle(s) including license plates if available ;
c) Direction of travel ;
d) Is the calling party involved or a witness/passerby?

SS424 - Call Taker Response to Disturbance Calls 2 e) Does the calling party want contact or just a patrol check for the disturb ance ?
f) Enter the call for service using the call type “ 415T .”
SS424.3.1 DISPATCHING THE CALL
a) Dispatch a minimum of two officers to the location of the disturbance ;
b) Dispatch one officer to make contact w ith the victim and have the second officer do an
area check for the subject causing the disturbance ;
c) Update responding officers with additional information as it becomes available.
SS424.4 CALL TAKING - LOUD MUSIC
Obtain the following information:
a) Wher e is the loud music coming from? A business, residence, or vehicle? If a vehicle,
get a vehicle description and license plate number if available.
b) Is it loud music or a party?
c) If it is a party, approximately how many people are there? Adults or juveniles ?
d) What is the primary complaint? Music, loud talking, minors in possession of alcohol,
racing and/or illegally parked vehicles?
e) Is the caller willing to sign a complaint if the loud subjects do not comply with the officers’
request for them to quiet down?
f) If they are willing to sign a complaint , note that in the call comments and obtain the
caller’s name, address and phone number.
g) Enter the call for service using the call type “ 415E .”
SS424.4.1 DISPATCHING THE CALL
a) Dispatch a minimum of two officers to the location of the disturbance ;
b) Update responding officers with additional information as it becomes available.
SS424.5 CALL TAKING - MECHANICAL DISTURBANCE
Obtain the following information:
a) What is the location of the disturbance?
b) What type of noise is it?
c) Does the calling party want contact?
d) Enter the call for service using the call type “ 415M .”
SS424.5.1 DISPATCHING THE CALL
Depending on the circumstances of the call, dispatch one or two officers to the location of the
disturbance.
