1 SS408 CALL TAKER RESPONSE TO PHYSICAL FIGHTS IN
PROGRESS AND BATTERIES
SS408 .1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This procedure establishes guidelines for handling fights and battery calls.
SS408 .1.2 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This procedure pertains to the following CALEA Standards: N/A
This p rocedure pertains to the following General Orders: §802
SS408 .2 PROCEDURE
SS408.2.1 CALL TAKING (IN PROGRESS)
When taking a call for a physical fight in progress the following information should be asked:
a) Where is the fight occurring? Business, residence, cross streets ;
b) Enter a call for service for the location of the fight using the incident type 415FIG ;
c) How many people are fighting and if any types of weapons were seen?
d) Description of the suspect(s) and associated vehicle(s) , if any ;
e) Does anyone appear in jured or need paramedics? If yes, notify Orange County Fire
Authority .
SS408.2.2 CALL TAKING (NOT IN PROGRESS)
When taking a call for a battery that is not in progress and there is not immediate danger, the
following information should be asked:
a) Where did the battery occur? Business, residence, cross streets ;
b) Are there any injuries and does the victim need immediate medical attention ? If yes, noti fy
Orange County Fire Authority;
c) The time delay ;
d) Is the suspect still on scene? Did he/she leave in a vehicle or on foot? If in a vehicle, obtain
a direction of travel and vehicle description ;
e) Suspect description ;
f) Were there any weapons involved?;
g) Name and relationship to the victim ;
h) Enter the call for service as 240242 if just occurred, or 24042R if report only.

2 SS408.3 DISPATCHING THE CALL
a) Dispatch a minimum of two officers immediately. If this is not in -progress send one officer
to the victims’ location however depending on the circumstances it may be appropriate to
send two officers.
b) If the name and date of birth of the suspect(s) is known, run the suspect(s) for wants ,
previous contacts , and guns registered to the suspect . Advise the respondin g units of any
pertinent information.
