SS336.2 PROCEDURE
The Traffic Division has contracted with authorized companies to tow in the City of Tustin .
Dispatch shall utilize the authorized tow companies on a rotational basis. The contact phone
numbers for these tow companies are in the Vesta Phone terminal under the T axi/Tows icon.
Choose the tab that says PD Tows and double click the tow company you want to contact. The
phone terminal will place the call for you.
Tow trucks are used for a variety of reasons such as traffic collisions, stored or impounded
vehicles, inoperable vehicles on the roadway, abandoned vehicles, and police or city vehicles.
As part of the agreement between the tow companies and the City, these companies have agreed
to a 20 minute or less response time. This minimizes the wait time for field personnel who have
requested a tow.
There are instances when a flatbed tow truck is requested. If the tow company that is contacted
by rotation advise s that they do not have a flatbed truck available, the next tow company in rotation
should be contacted. Rarely, the tow company may advise they have no trucks available. Contact
the next tow company in the rotation. If the tow truck request is associated with a call for service,
enter the name of the tow company that was notified as a comment in CAD. This will time stamp
the entry and provide easy reference if the information is needed at a later time.
If there are any issues with the tow company dispatched, including extended response time, notify
the Traffic Sergeant.
