PS304 – Military Deployment and Reintegration 1 PS304 MILITARY DEPLOYMENT AND REINTEGRATION
PS304.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This policy will provide procedures for employees’ military deployment and reintegration to the
department. This policy shall apply to employees who are absent from the department for a
period of 180 days or longer and any branch of military service covered under the Uniformed
Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). This leave shall be in addition
to any benefits provided by the City of Tustin or in accordance with state or federal law.
PS304.1.2 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This p rocedure pertains to the following CALEA Standards: 22.1.2 , 22.1.9 , 22.2.8
This procedure pertains to the f ollowing General Orders: N/A
PS304.2 PRE-DEPLOYMENT PROCEDURES
An employee seeking a military leave of absence will submit a copy of his/her military orders to
their supervisor as soon as possible along with written notification to include the following:
a) Anticipated date(s) of leave ;
b) Unit name and identification ;
c) Commanding Officer’s name and contact information ;
d) Immediate military supervisor’s name and contact information .
The Chief of Police and/or the Human Resources Director will meet with the employee prior to
deployment to discuss the employee’s benefits while deployed and information relevant to
reintegration.
The employee will be responsible for the storage of agenc y equipment.
PS304.2.1 AGENCY POINT OF CONTACT
The employee will identify a member of the department to act as the agency’s point of contact
(POC) to provide information to the Chief of Police and/or Human Resources Director. The POC
will keep up to dat e on the deployed employee ’s status, active needs and family needs. In
addition , the POC should keep the deployed employee up to date on department activities and
events.
PS304.3 REINTEGRATION
Prior to returning to full -duty, the returning employee will participate in a reorientation with the
Professional Standards Division and will include:

a) A meeting with the Chief of Police and/or Human Resources Director;
b) Reissue of equipment;
c) Policy review update;
d) Retraining/refresher training;
e) Weapons requalification.
