STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
Uniform and Equipment Specifications 1 AD200 UNIFORM and EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS
AD200 .1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The uniform and equipment specifications of the Tustin Police Department amplify TPD Policy
§1046 to ensure that uniformed personnel are readily identifiable to the public through the proper
use and wearing of Department uniforms. Uniform and equipment specifications are detailed in
the Tustin Police Department Uniform and Equipment Specifications Manual.
AD200 .1.2 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This procedure pertains to the following CALEA Standards: 16.4.3, 17.5.2, 22.1.6, 22.2.5, 22.2.7,
26.1.1, 41.3.4 , 45.3.3
This procedure pertains to the following General Orders: §1046; §1052
AD200 .2 SWORN OFFICER UNIFORM SPECIFICATIONS
a) The badge shall be a silver shield and shall denote rank in arched writing across the top.
The word s “TUSTIN POLICE” will appear in an inverted rocker below the City seal and the
employee’s badge number will appear at the bottom of the badge.
b) The badge shall be worn on the outermost garment, attached to the
uniform in the provided eyelets or holder on the left breast area, clearly
visible at all times.
c) A cloth facsimile of the badge may be affixed to jackets in lieu of a metal
badge. The cloth facsimile may also be substituted on utility uniforms
such as BDU’s, SRT uniforms , DET uniforms , polo-style uniform shirts,
SWAT uniforms, and other similar garments as approved by the Chief
of Police.
d) Flat badges, commonly referred to as wallet badges, may be carried
and may be issued to sworn officers at their own expense with the
exception of detectives, sergeants and above.
e) All badges shall be the property of the Tustin Police Department and will be returned upon
separation from the department.
Uniform Necktie - The tie shall be black in color, of plain cloth material, pre -tied and shall be
equipped with a clip -on breakaway device. The bottom of the tie shall not exceed two inches ( 2”)
from the top or bottom of the duty belt.
Tie Bar - A silver color tie bar shall be utilized. The tie bar shall be worn centered on the tie,
positioned in a horizontal line with two breast pocket flap buttons, secure d to the shirt front. A
silver badge tie tack may be substituted for the tie bar.
Uniform Trouser Belt - Black leather, basket -weave with silver colored buckle, single tongue, 1½
or 1¾ inches in width.

Uniform and Equipment Specifications 2 Optional Trouser Belt – (For grandfathered officers hired prior to December 31, 2010) A black
nylon or Velcro trouser belt may be worn in lieu of the leather buckle belt when worn with the duty
belt.
Optional Uniform Cap - Baseball type, department issued. The cap is part of the department’s
official uniform and shall be worn in an official capacity only with the class “B” or “C” uniform .
Optional Cold Weather Knit Cap or Cold Weather Headband - Cloth/Wool type, embroidered
Tustin Police logo, department issued. This cap is part of the department’s official uniform and
shall be worn in an official capacity with the Class “B” or “C” uniform during cold weather with
supervisor approval.
Uniform Duty Jacket – Blauer brand “Cruiser” , all weather, black in color, waist length. The
officer’s first initial and last name shall be embroidered in ¾” silver letters onto a 1” black name
tape and the tape sewn directly on the jacket above the right breast pocket flap. The embroidery
will be si lver in color. Department shoulder patches, cloth badge and appropriate rank chevrons
shall be sewn directly onto the right and left sleeves of the jacket. Blauer brand soft shell fleece
is an acceptable alternative jacket which shall conform to all above requirements.
Footwear
a) Boots shall be black leather or combination leather/synthetic , plain, round -toed high -top,
receptive to maintaining a high -gloss shine worn with black socks ;
b) Shoes shall be black leather, plain, round -toed center lace -style, receptive to maintaining
a high -gloss shine, worn with black socks.
Name plate
a) Silver -colored metal, with black lettering, size 2 3/8 inch by 1/2 inches, with first initial and
last name shall be worn with Class “A” and “B” uniforms.
b) The name plate shall be worn on the outermost garment, clearly visible at all times affixed
to the uniform shirt centered above the right breast pocket.
Departmental Shoulder Patches
a) Full size official Tustin Police Department patches shall be worn on class “
