CATEGORY DATE ADOPTED LAST REVIEW NEXT REVIEW 4 01/24/2011 04/01/201 8 04/01/20 20 TUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS ______ _____________________ 1034 - Meal Periods and Breaks 1 POLICY 1034 MEAL PERIODS AND BREAKS 1034.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE This policy regarding meals and breaks, insofar as possible , shall conform to the policy governing all City employees that has been established by the City Manager. 1034.1.1 ACCREDITAT ION STANDARDS This section pertains to the following CALEA Standards: (None applicable at this time.) 1034.1. 2 MEAL PERIODS All employees should remain on duty subject to call during meal breaks. Uniformed employees should request clearance from Comm unications prior to taking a meal period. Uniformed officers should take their breaks within the City limits unless on assignment outside of the City or with supervisor approval . The time spent for the meal period shall not exceed the authorized time allow ed. 1034.1. 3 15 MINUTE BREAKS Each employee is entitled to a 15 minute break, near the mid -point, for each four hour work period. Only one 15 minute break shall be taken during each four hours of duty. No breaks shall be taken during the first or last h our of an employee’s shift unless approved by a supervisor. Employees normally assigned to the police facility shall remain in the area of the police facility for their breaks. This would not prohibit them from taking a break away from the facility if on official business. Field officers are subject to call and shall monitor their radios during breaks and meal periods .
