CATEGORY DATE ADOPTED LAST REVIEW 3 01/24/2011 07/14/2022 TUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS ______ ________________________ 1029 - Special Assignment Rotation 1 POLICY 1029 SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT ROTATION 1029.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this policy is to establish a mandatory rotational policy for special assignments. 1029.1.1 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS This section pertains to the following CALEA Standard s: 16.2.3 , 33.8.3 1029.2 TRAFFIC UNIT Personnel assigned to the Traffic Unit will rotate as follows: a) Sergeant : Three year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . b) Motors : Five year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . c) Police Services Officer : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performanc e. d) Police Records Specialist: Five year term w ith the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance. 1029. 3 K9 HANDLERS Personnel assigned as K9 handlers will be assigned for a minimum three year assignment with no term limit, usually tied in with the working life of t he assigned canine. 1029. 4 CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT Personnel assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit will rotate as follows: a) Sergeant : Three year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . b) Detective : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . c) RNSP Detective : Five year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . d) School Resource Officer: Five year term with the potential of a one year extension . e) OCATT Detective : Five year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . f) Police Services Officer : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . g) Police Records Specialist : Five yea r term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance. CATEGORY DATE ADOPTED LAST REVIEW 3 01/24/2011 07/14/2022 TUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL ORDERS ______ ________________________ 1029 - Special Assignment Rotation 2 1029. 5 GANG REDUCTION AND DIRECTED ENFORCEMENT UNIT Personnel assigned to the GRADE Unit will rotate as follows: a) Sergeant : Three year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . b) Detective : Five year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . c) Officer : Five year term with the potenti al for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . d) Police Records Specialist: Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance. 1029. 6 PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS DIVISION Personnel assign ed to the Professional Standards Division will rotate as follows: a) Sergeant : Three year term with the potential for year to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . b) Personnel Officer : Five year term with the potential for ye ar to year extension s based on agency needs and performance . c) Training Officer: Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . d) Police Services Officer : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . e) Police Records Specialist : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance. 1029. 7 DIVISION COMMANDERS The five sworn Division Commanders: North Area C ommander, South Area Commander, Special Operations Commander, City Operations Commander, and Professional Standards Commander will rotate at the discretion of the Police Chief. 1029. 8 COMMUNITY RESOURCES UNIT Personnel ass igned to the Community Resources Unit will rotate as follows: a) Homeless Liaison Officer : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . b) Community Impact Officer : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . c) Police Services Officer : Five year term with the potential for year to year extensions based on agency needs and performance . Field Training Officers will be subj ect to a one (1) year probationary period beginning at the time
