1028 - Request for Change of Assignment 1 POLICY 1028 REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF ASSIGNMENT
1028.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Employees may request a change of assignment prior to the end of the assignment term. It is the
intent of the department that all requests for change of assignment are considered equa lly. To
facilitate the selection process, the following procedure is established whereby all such requests
will be reviewed on an equal basis as assignments are made.
1028.1.1 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This section pertains to the following CALEA Standards : N/A
1028.2 REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF ASSIGNMENT
Tustin Police personnel wishing a change of assignment are to complete an intent letter. The
letter should address the following points:
a) Location of current assignment ;
b) Time in current assignment ;
c) Reason f or the request for change of assignment ;
d) Where you wish to be transferred .
Once completed, the intent letter should be forwarded through the requesting employee’s chain of
command to their Bureau Commander.
1028.3 SUPERVISORY COMMENTARY
The requesting e mployee’s immediate supervisor shall make appropriate comments in writing to
the Bureau Commander regarding the assignment change request.
1028.4 LIMITATIONS
Transfers may only be granted in the following cases:
a) If such transfer is allowed by the approp riate Memorandum of Understanding ;
b) If such transfer does not create a grievable action by another employee ;
c) If such transfer would serve the needs of the department .
The Bureau Commander shall make the determination considering the above limitations.
