444 - Watch Commanders 1 POLICY 444 WATCH COMMANDERS
444.4 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Each patrol shift must be directed by supervisors who are capable of making decisions and
communicating in a manner consistent with departmental policies, procedures, practices,
functions and objective s. To accomplish this goal, a Sergeant heads each watch.
444.1.1 ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
This section pertains to the following CALEA Standards: 11.3.1
444.2 DESIGNATION AS ACTING WATCH COMMANDER
A Sergeant shall be designated as the Watch Commande r. This policy does not preclude
designating Senior Officers /Field Training Officers /Master Officers as an acting field supervisor
and/or Watch Commander when operational needs require, or training permits .
