II. POLICY: Pursuant to Department of Corrections Rule, Chapter 33-8, County and Municipal Detention Facilities, the detention area of the Surfside Police Department shall be classified as a prisoner processing facility. This facility provides for the temporary holding of prisoners awaiting processing such as booking, interrogation, or transportation, where seating space must be provided. No prisoner shall remain in custody within the facility for a time exceeding that which is necessary to normally process and/or interview prisoners. Upon completion of normal processing and/or interview, the prisoner shall be issued a Notice to Appear or transported to the county jail, which shall be documented on the incident report. The prisoner processing facility shall be under the direction of the Chief of Police, and under the direct control of the uniform shift supervisor. Cameras in the holding facility are not monitored continuously. Cameras are used for surveillance; images are stored for a 30-day period.
