A. PURPOSE
The purpose of this directive is to establish guidelines for th e function, requirements, and the safety rules and
regulations concerning the operati on of the Marine Patrol Unit.
B. SCOPE
This directive is applicable t o all department members.

C. POLICY
1. It is the policy of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Depar tment to develop and maintain a Marine Patrol
Unit that is safe, effective, and professional.
2. The Marine Patrol Unit will be u sed to assist in Law Enforcemen t operations which include but are not limited
to; waterway patrol, search, rescue, surveillance, and other ap propriate marine-related activities.
D. DEFINITIONS
Marine Patrol Officer : A sworn member of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Depart ment that has successfully
completed and received documented training by a qualified instr uctor from an approved boating course and who
has also demonstrated proficiency with the agency’s particular watercraft.
Watercraft: For the purpose of this directive, unless otherwise stipulated , the term “watercraft” will mean any boat,
vessel, ship, or personal watercraft which is owned, rented, le ased, or used by the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police
Department.
E. SELECTION AND DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
1. The Chief of Police or designee will announce whenever an openi ng is anticipated on the Marine Patrol.
