A. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Community Resource Unit (CRU) is to enhance the overall safety and well-being of the
community by collaborating with residents, community organizati ons, and local businesses to address social issues,
improve public safety, and promote community empowerment. CRU s hall strive to foster trust, understanding and
collaboration between the police department and the community i t serves.
B. SCOPE
This directive applies to all me mbers assigned to the Community Resource Unit.
C. POLICY
The Community Resource Unit (CRU) of the Sunny Isles Beach Pol ice Department is committed to building
positive relationships between law enforcement and the communit y, enhancing public safety, and addressing
community concerns through community engagement, outreach and p roblem-solving.
The CRU shall strive to foster trust, understanding, and collab oration between the police department and the
community it serves as well as addressing and preventing public safety issues, crime and quality of life concerns
through proactive community engagement.

D. COMMUNITY POLICING PRINCIPLES
1. CRU officers will adhere to community policing principles, such as problem-solving, community partnerships
and proactive engagement.
2. Officers will respect the values, cultures and diversity of the communities they serve.
E. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Community Outreach:
a. Engage in community events, mee tings and forums to establish po sitive relationships.
b. Address community concerns and offer resources and support.
2. Problem Solving:
a. Identify and analyze recurring community problems and develop e ffective strategies for resolution.
The CRU will work with community members to identify, address a nd resolve public safety and quality
of life issues.
b. Collaborate with community membe rs and stakeholders to implemen t solutions.
3. Youth and School Programs:
a. Develop and support programs that promote positive interactions between law enforcement and young
people.
b. Participate in school-based initiatives to enhance safety and t rust.
4. Vulnerable Populations:
Identify and address the unique needs of vulnerable populations , such as the elderly, homeless and
individuals with mental health c hallenges and substance abuse.
5. Comply with local, state and federal laws and regulations, as w ell as departmental policies.
6. The unit will establish and maintain regular meetings with comm unity leaders, residents and local organizations
to understand community concerns and priorities.
