A. PURPOSE
The purpose of the policy is to establish the building security measures for the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.
B. POLICY
It is the policy of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department to maintain a safe and secure building for its members
through a practical approach to security by all members of the Department.
C. DEFINITIONS
Security Door – Door within the Department requiring a key and/ or card to access.
Security Gate - Gate to the fenced area of the Department requi ring a key and/or card to access.
Visitor – Any individual wan ting access to the Police Departmen t who is NOT a:
a. Police Department employee, contractor or volunteer;
b. Family member of a Police Department employee;
c. City of Sunny Isles Beach public official;
d. City employee on official business;
e. City and/or Police Department vendors; or

f. Other law enforcement agency personnel on official business.
D. SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY
This policy applies to all members of the Sunny Isles Beach Pol ice Department.
E. ACCESS/IDENTIFICATION CARDS
1. Access into non-public areas of the Sunny Isles Beach governmen t center requires an encoded access card, and
bio-metric imprint on file with the appropriate level of access authority.
2. Each employee of the department will be issued a departmental a ccess/identification card by the Administrative
Division.
3. Each card shall contain the following information on the front of the card:
a. Employees Name and Rank or Title.
b. A banner along the right hand side of the card shall indicate w hether the employee is an employee or
contractor.
c. A full face color photograph of the employee.
4. Each employee is responsible for the safeguarding of their assi gned access/identification card. Cards are not to
be loaned, transferred or given to other employees or non-depar tmental personnel.
5. All police department employees will be granted access rights i nto the common areas of the police portion of
the building on a 24/7 basis. Certain areas of the building re quire additional security authorization as follows:
a. Detective Bureau areas shall be restricted to only those member s assigned to the Detective Bureau,
Supervisors and above.
b. Access to the Armory is restricted solely to the Chief of Polic e or designee.
c. The Records Unit is secured by biometric and card access. Acces s is restricted to the Chief of Police or
designee.
d. Civilian personnel may be granted access to the holding facilit y and sally port based on their duty
assignment. (All civilians need to have access to holding facil ity and sally port for emergency purposes,
and they shall be directed not to access this area unless for 9 11 purposes or unless authorized by a Sergeant
or above.) They certainly should not access it when a prisoner is present unless for 911 reasons.
e. Access to
