A. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to establish a code of conduct fo r the members of the Sunny Isles Beach Police
Department. In addition, this policy outlines the possible cou rses of action available in the event these rules, or any
other directives, are violated.
B. POLICY
It is the policy of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department to have a comprehensible code of conduct for all of its
members to follow. The rules of conduct contained in this poli cy are meant to supplement all Department directives;
the City of Sunny Isles Beach Personnel Policy and Procedure Ma nual and the existing labor agreement. These
rules are adopted for the administration, management, disciplin e, and disposition of the mem bers of the Sunny Isles
Beach Police Department.
C. DEFINITIONS
Chain of Command – Lines of authority which provide for a logic al flow of policies, orders, reports and information
to the different levels of the organization.

Child in Common: Refers to biol ogical or legally adopted childr en of both officers.
City - The City of Sunny Isles Beach
Department - Sunny Isles Beach Police Department
Department Directive - Written documents used to direct the act ions of Department personnel and establish
Department policies and procedures or convey information to Dep artment members. Written directives may be
Department Policies, General Orders, Standard Operating Procedu res, Information Bulletins, Legal Bulletins,
Memoranda and other directives that direct Department activitie s.
Department Member – An employee of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.
Discipline - A form of corrective action dependent for its succ ess on the ability of superiors to train subordinates to
obey and conform to Department policies, procedures, and rules.
Member - Any employee of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Departmen t, whether sworn or non-sworn, paid or unpaid,
full-time or part-time. In addition, for the purposes of this p olicy, any Department volunteer or intern assigned to
the Department. Officer – a sworn law enforceme nt officer of the Sunny Isles Be ach Police Department.
Spousal Relationship - Refers to a legal marriage or recognized domestic partnership as per local laws and
regulations.
Supervisor - Any member holding r ank above that of other member s and who has the authority to oversee the
activities of other members. The term includes any member desig nated as a supervisor and any
