A. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the u se of Department computer systems and electronic
communications.
B. POLICY
It is the policy of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department to provide computer systems and the use of electronic
communications in order to increase productivity and effectiven ess. It is also the policy of the Department to
regulate the use of such systems and equipment.
C. DEFINITIONS
Accessory Equipment – Items used to support operations of compu ters such as printers, cables, carrying cases or
other devices attaching to or e nhancing the use and capability of a computer.

Authorized Users – Department members, volunteers and other ind ividuals who have been authorized by the Chief
of Police or designee to use Depa rtment computer systems and eq uipment.
Information Technology Department – The team of individuals aut horized by the Chief of Police, responsible for
the technical maintenance and repairs of the Department compute r systems and/or networks.
Department – The Sunny Isl es Beach Police Department.
E-mail – The electronic mail system owned and operated by the C ity of Sunny Isles Beach.
Hardware – Any computer or associated device directly involved in the performance of communications or data
processing.
Internet – The global system of interconnected computer network s that interchange data, such as the Worldwide
Web (www), the internal intranet for the Police Department and web pages associated with the City of Sunny Isles
Beach.
Laptop Computer – A portable mobile device used to process and/ or store information through electronic medium
or by printing.
Member – Any employee of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Departmen t including contract employees and volunteers.
Personal Identification Informa tion (PII) - Personal identifica tion information” means any name or number that
may be used, alone or in conjunction with any other information , to identify a specific person, including any:
Name, postal or electronic mail address, telephone number, soci al security number, dat e of birth, mother’s
maiden name, official state-issu ed or United States-issued driv er license or identification number, alien
registration number, government passport number,
