PURPOSE The purpose of this directive is to establish guidelines for th e planning, implementation, and revision of training programs for the employees of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Pol ice Department. The intent of such training shall be to provide employees with the skills and knowledge necessary for performing their duties in a way that is consistent with current police practice. B. SCOPE This directive is applicable to all employees of this Departme nt. C. POLICY It is the policy of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Depart ment to ensure that the needs of the Department are addressed and that there is accountability for all training pro vided. TRAINING Policy 107 GO 107 Training Page 2 of 10 Rev. 07/31/22 D. DEFINITIONS: Course Roster: A document listing all employees who attended the course. Each employee's name, ID#, times, agency, sworn status, title, or rank, and course informa tion. Executive Management Training: Training that may be held outside the agency and designed to im part higher level supervisory and mana gement skills to participants, such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute (SPI) Academy, FBI-LEEDA, FDLE Execut ive Leadership training, etc. Formal Training: Generally, involves a formal instructor/trainee relationship wh ere the instruction is presented by a qualified instructor(s) in the form of academic classroom instruction, h ands-on proficiency skills training, structured on-the-job training, such as the Fi eld Officer Training Program, or certain meetings or conferences that include an instructional element. Formal training includes requirements for completions, file documentation of what was instructed, a recor d of attendance, who taught, and the dates and times of instruction. High-Liability Topics: Include Use of Force Training, Emergency Vehicle Operations Cou rse, Firearms, Less-Lethal Weapons (TASER and ASP baton, etc.…), First Aid/CPR , and Defensive Tactics. As defined by Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission ( CJSTC). Informal Training: Can include a wide variety of i nstructional events that genera lly consist of one-on-one or small group instruction by a supervisor or specifically skil led or knowledgeable person to explain, teach, clarify, or direct the actions of employees in an on-the-job se tting. In-Service Training : Training subsequent to recruit training, which may include tr aining related to new concepts, or equipment, new to the law enforcement field, perio dic retraining, refresher training, specialized training, promotional training, and career development training . Lesson Plan: A detailed format an instructor uses to conduct the course. Le sson plans for training courses administered by the City of Sunny Isles Beach Police Department includes a statement of: student performance objectives, training content, appropriate instructi onal techniques, lesson plan format, lesson plan approval process and identification of test(s), if used. On-The-Job Training (OJT): Instruction, training, or skills taught to an employee by anoth er employee(s) on a tutorial basis during a tour of duty while performing norm al activities of employment. Orientation/Probation Training: Training that provides new employees with necessary informatio n concerning department organiza tion, operations, personnel, poli cies and procedures and the accreditation process.
