POLICY The City of Sunny Isles Beach Department is responsible for the control and storage of evidence collected by Department members in a manner which will preserve the integrit y of the evidence in its original condition as nearly as possible. The Department shall also maintain complete record s of the security and subsequent disposition of evidence. This system is designe d to ensure con tinuity and cons istency in the safekeeping of evidence and to meet the requirements of the judicial system. D. DEFINITIONS: Chain of Custody: A written record of all persons having charge, control, or po ssession of property/evidence from the moment of impoundment until final disposition. Evidence: Any property or material that is believed to be related in som e way to a suspected criminal offense. Laboratory Analysis Request: A department form used to request analysis on evidence from the Miami-Dade County Police Department Crime Laboratory.
