A. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to document established guideline s for providing effective communication and services
to the citizens of the City of Sunny Isles Beach and the member s of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.
B. POLICY
It is the policy of the Sunny Isles Beach Police department (SI BPD) to ensure that a consistently high level of
service is provided to all members of the community it serves, including people who are disabled.
C. COMMUNICATIONS OPERATIONS PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Receives and evaluates requests for police services.
2. Relays information to police dispatcher regarding citizens’ req uests for service and assistance needed by field
units.

3. Receives inquiries from the public and provides general informa tion or referrals.
4. Disseminates messages over the computer-based information netwo rk as requested.
5. Transmits message recovery infor mation to the proper department al entity or originating agencies.
6. Enters and updates messages in the Stolen/Towed/Abandoned Vehic le (STA) file, Florida Crime Information
Center (FCIC), and National Crim e Center (NCIC), and make modif ications, cancellations and clear as directed.
7. Relays requests and information from field units and or callers to the MDPD Dispatcher utilizing the Police
Radio.
8. Monitors Miami-Dade Police Department Intracoastal radio freque ncy and logs all relayed information into the
Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
D. SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
1. The Communications Center shall have, and maintain in working o rder, security barriers at all entrances.
2. All entrances shall have continuous closed circuit video survei llance to allow communications personnel means
of identifying persons seeki ng entrance to the facility.
3. Each entrance shall be equipped with an electronic key card / f ingerprint reader and will be restricted to only
those personnel having authorization to enter the facility unes corted.
4. The entrances to the Dispatch Section shall remain closed and l ocked at all times. Each entrance shall be
equipped with an electronic key card / fingerprint reader. Thes e locks shall be restricted to Communications
personnel and other authorized personnel only.
5. Public access inside the facility shall be restricted to the po lice lobby, unless escorted b y authorized personnel.
6. The public shall not be allowed in the Dispatch Unit at any tim e unless escorted by authorized personnel or they
have met the requirements as per CJIS Security Policy.
7. Access to the radio dispatch/te letype areas shall be limited to authorized personnel only .
8. Radio, teletype, and telephone per sonnel shall be permitted acc ess to effect repairs
