A. PURPOSE:
The purpose of this directive is to establish guidelines for the handling, care, and transport of individuals who fit
the criteria of Florida State Statute Chapter 394, known as “The Florida Mental Health Act” or “The Baker Act,”
as well as Florida Chapter 397, known as the “Hal S. Marchman Alcohol and Other Drug Services Act of 1993.”
All members are reminded that intoxication and mental illness are not crimes.
